  1. I completely agree with what the author is saying. Personally, having a job as a teenager has really taught me a lot, and it gives a really good sense of accomplishment when you get your first paycheck.

  2. The value of holding a job teaches you responsibility and discipline, it gets you ready for the real world. It is sad that our society focuses more on celebrity's than people who actually matter.

  3. Holding a job really does teach you responsibility, especially if you work in an animal clinic like I do. It's not just the customers who relies on you but the patients, technicians, vets, and receptionists. You really have to know what you're doing to be successful. I got my job initially to get my truck but now it's necessary for me to keep it to pay for the gas and monthly payments. Honestly, if you have a job you don't like, you're not going to try as hard or get much out of it. Plus, you have the places that just let you slack off and do as you please. To be honest, a job can truly help you or do absolutely nothing for you.

  4. Having a job has taught me responsibility, but most importantly it has taught me the value of money. Having to put in long hours and hard work for my minimum wage I'm a little less willing to throw away my money. I think about what I want and then think how long it will take my to make that money back and is it really worth it.

  6. i agree with the author! I currently have a job and it's my first job as well.. I do love to receive my paycheck every week, and i feel very accomplished. It hurts me to spend it, but thats the idea of making money. Working is a major part of life because its what u got to do in order to live.

  7. i agree with the author. Jobs give you responsibility that you may not have had. It also makes you realize the value of money. Because its a lot different when your spending your parents money.

  8. Although people like Beyonce or Lauren Conrad didn't get successful without the media that doesn't mean they don't deserve their success. They worked however hard they had to,to get where they are today. Just because they didn't invent something or sell a large company for millions or billions doesn't mean they aren't as equal as bill gates or steve jobs.

  10. Having a job at a young age did teach me the value of money and how success doesn't usually just come to you, you have to work hard for it. It also teaches you discipline when it comes down to what you spend your money on.

  11. I do not personally know what having a job can do for you because I have never had one. It’s not that I don’t want one, I would love a job, but my dad won’t let me get one, he says that school is my only job and that a higher education will lead to success, and a job would just get in the way. However, that first job can teach so much about responsibility and the real world, not everything’s fair and you have to work hard to get a reward. Especially if you are heading off to college, a job can teach you dedication, punctuality, and to work hard.

  12. I think holding a job is important for a teen because it means being responsible, and showing maturity. If you can hold onto a good job for a long time at this age, then you should be able to have a better one for a long time once your education is complete. I have wanted a job for a long time because I want to be able to save up for college and pay for gas on my own, but havn't had any luck. Holding onto a good job will also show that you will be able to provide for yourself in the future.

  14. Having that first job gives teenagers a little taste of what the real world will be like. It will be stressful trying to juggle school and work, but it will teach you responsibility and dedication.

  15. Holding a job teaches you responsibility that you will require in your life past high school and college. But I dont believe that its just holding the job that is the most important, but how you conduct yourself while employed there that really has the most impact. Do you skate by by doing the bare minimum? Or do you go above and beyond when completing your work? Its theses factors that will show just how you will conduct yourself in the world, and if your ready.

  16. Having a job as a teenager will give insight on future possibilities. It doesn't just teach responsibility it also teaches real world applications, because there are not a lot in school a job provides that opportunity.

  17. I agree with the editor in that you need to have a first job as a teenager. When you actally work for something and earn money, you develop a sense of responsibility about yourself which leads to a healthier lifestyle for you as a whole. If you don't have a job you also won't develop social skills necessary to be successful in life.

  18. I agree with the author because having a first job as a teenager can develop a good work ethic, and give you a sense of accomplishment. It will show you what the true meaning of hardwork and dedication is, and it will also prepare you for what will probably happen in the future. It can also teach you how to spend the money you earn wisely, and how to be successful in your future jobs. You will be a step ahead of everyone else if you have your first job while your a teenager.

  19. I agree with the author. Having a job as a teenager shaped who you are and changes your priorities. I had a job for a year in retail and it taught me the value of a dollar I was so use to grabbing money from my parents and spending it quickly without ever thinking about how hard they had to work to obtain that money. A job teaches you how to manage your money and sometimes the job is stressful but people realize if they quit they will be broke. Getting a job as a teenager teaches people to be there own person and less selfish.

  20. I agree with the author, a person getting their first job as a teenager is pivotal in that persons success in the future. Having that first job as a teenager provides extremely valuable experience that will pay off in the near future. When an employer surveys an applicants resume one of the first things they look for is your previous employment, if you have none their you are at a severe disadvantage against the competition.

  21. I think that finding a first job is the most important part of being a teenager. Those of us with jobs are usually more likely to be on top of our assignments in school, get better grades, and manage our time more efficiently. We understand that there is more to life than just school and our friends. I think it really prepares us for the real workforce, and that there aren't as many second chances as it may seem.

  22. I agree with the author because I am learning new things every day at my work. Having a job teaches you to be responsible and be on time. Also, by having a job as a teenager, we are able to get a taste of what its truly like to earn money through your hard work. It hones your skill of working with other employees and how to handle certain situations correctly.

  23. I'm going to half agree with the author. I think it depends more on the student itself whether or not having a teen job is essentially that important. If I had a half time job, working after school, and late nights, I wouldn't be half as successful in high school as I am now. School (right now) is my job. I study my butt off, get my assignments in on time, and I know the importance good work ethic. At the same time, having a job at an early age can benefit you with knowing how to manage your money a lot better.

  24. Having a job really taught me responsibility and the value of money. It made me appritiate my money that I earned more than just being given money by my parnets. It also teaches you how to work with a lot of different people.

  25. Having a job as a teenager is very crucial in order to understand the real world. It teaches responsibility which is the key to make it through college and get a real job. You can't rely on your parents for the rest of your life, you have to grow up at some point.

  26. I know my first job now is very important on how I view the workforce. Reading this article made me stop and think about how I am. What kind of job do I need to start with? What is the pay? Will I grow? I have never had a job and now I can really do. I don't want to settle, and for so long I thought I had to settle for fast food but now I can go beyond and try something different.

  27. Holding a job teaches you discipline, money management, punctuality, and respect. In reality, the paycheck is just the icing on the cake with what you learn at a workplace. You create many new friendships, you mature, and you come out of your shell. For instance, my sister started her job at PetSmart a little over 7 months ago; prior to being hired, she was the chick who would stand in a corner in a room crowded with people. Now, she talks to everybody, and she's more confident. Having a job doesn't just benefit your wallet, but your personality, too.

  28. To the editor:

As a young American teen, I do agree with the importance of a getting a first job, getting a feel for real responsibility and actually work. You have made a generalized assumption that all teen think success comes by luck, this is not true. Many teens, especially my generation, have jobs already. Pay for their own gas, saving up for a new car, or do it just to have money in their pocket. Other teens are involved in yearly sports which is just as much work as a regular job. In conclusion I agree with the body of the article, but not the generalization because all teens are not the same. Many are very aware of how success is reached.

  33. I agree with the author of this article. I had my first job this past summer and it indeed taught me quite a few lessons. I learned about myself and things such as being on time and the value of hard work and managing my time. This led me to understand that its not as easy as the moviestars make it look, i can't just get famous to earn my way. I have to earn it.

  35. Dear Editor:

The value of holding a job is very important to teens these days even if they don't realize it right off the bat. Most on the other hand do realize that having a job is a great way to teach them how to build relationships with others in the work force, learn how to be a leader, and is especially helps teach time management! Teens being able to create their own income can help because it teaches them how to start saving their money before they start receiving legitimate bills.

  37. Having to work hard for money and not just asking dad for it makes it more valuable to me because then I'm less willing to spend it. Having a job also gives me a sence of accoplishment in that I work hard for something and was rewarded for it. Jobs also help teens to balence multipule responsiblities at a time, something that we will have to do for the rest of our lives.

  38. Having that first job not only teaches you the value of working for your money and the joy of reward. It also helps with saving because when it is your hard earned cash you think twice before spending it on things you don't need.

  39. Agreeing with the author i also think that having a job can be a good thing because you get paid and teenagers love getting money, it teaches you responsibilities and gives you a hard work ethic. A job can do many things for teenagers that teach them how to live in the real world and what is to come from it. With a job you get this feeling of saving and cherishing money and not taking it lightly because you know how hard it was to get that certain amount of money.

  40. Although I agree with the editor that having a job as a teenager is very important, I completely disagree with the rest of the article. I personally do not know anyone that is stupid enough to believe that being successful just comes with luck and doing things like being on a T.V. show. The fact that the editor thinks that the majority of today's teens think that you should rely on becoming famous on a television show is alarming, because it is far from the truth.

  41. I agree, I think its important for a teenager to have they're first job during their teenage years. It teaches a sense of responsibility and independence. It teaches you that hard work is really worth it, it can take you long ways in life and it really pays off. Plus, its nice to not having to ask your parents for money all the time.

  42. To the editor:
I agree students need to develop a strong work ethic to aid in future endeavors. However I do not agree with the discouragement of applying to talent searches disabling an opportunity that could be afforded to a child. Also I believe if the child is moderately busy and not belaboring every moment of their life they should consider getting a job. Developing work good work ethic should be something learned at a younger age so getting young children involved in group projects should be enforced. So when they do get that first job they will only have to practice their well known work ethic.

  44. Having a job as a teenager is definitely a positive thing. It teaches responsibility and teaches you the value of money. I cant say that i have this traits completely because i have never had a job yet but am looking to start 1 up soon with in the next couple weeks.

  45. I fully agree with the author. With the experience I gained through my first job, I am now an assistant for the boss of a fitness machine company. Without gaining the knowledge I did with my first job, I would have never been given the opportunity to move to a better job. Everyone who thinks they're going to get by by acting or being on reality tv, are highly mistaken. Their chances are highly unlikely yet that industry is so glamourized that everyone wants to be apart of it because people think it's easier than working a desk job. This generation along with future generations are very lazy. But those who have had a job understand and seem to have a bigger grasp on reality and understand you can't be lazy to get somewhere in life.

  46. Even though I don't currently have a job, I agree with the author. Your first job I'd the most important because it's where you get most or all of your experience for future jobs.
