I disagree with Obama on expanding the school year, I feel that we do enough school as it is and we should get a chance to take a break. Obama said 1/3 of kids are dropping out; I believe if we make the school year longer it is just going to make more kids come to school less. Also by expanding the school year it will cost more, which is probably means taking more of our tax money I do agree with him on making sure teachers are doing a good job, it's not fair if a student has a bad grade because the teacher isn't doing his or her job.

Personally I don't think money is even the issue with the state of our education program. If you look back 100 years, there was no Department of Education, the government did not spend billions of dollars to make the education program better, and they had none of the technology we have today, and yet I think they were at least as well educated as today, if not better.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Obama. i think expanding the school year isn't a great idea because its would cost us more money to spent. I think others student would also agree with me on this one because we needed to take a break. Expanding the school year will put more stress on some student. I agree with Obama about making sure teachers doing what they suppose to do. It would help students to learn better and gets better grades. I also agree with Shannon Reynolds about expanding the school year because we pretty much have the same opinion.

ReplyDeleteI disagree with Obama as well, students today with ten months of school are already stressed out enough. Especially students and teachers that have family issues, jobs, and problems in general, breaks are good for everyone. Expanding school may also make students drop out of school faster with not having a break and having this passed would be for nothing and a waste of time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with azianboz because it would cost us more money and taxes might increase.
I disagree with Obama. Extending the school year will only cost more money, and give students more stress. I believe that would also cause some students to lose motivation to learn and possibly drop out. It would also mean having to pay more of our money to teachers.
ReplyDeleteI agree with azianboz: Extending school means higher taxes for citizens.
I also agree with atran419: Having breaks help decrease stress.

I disagree with Obama. I think students will be less willing to learn if the school year is extended. The amount of time we have for summer is a much needed break from the stress of school and homework.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jenny Allen, that added month will make kids less motivated to do well and kids will be more likely to drop out.

I disagree with Obama, expanding the school year will only lead to more problems. Students will get tired of school and slack of more and drop out rates will go up. I also think money will play a bigger issue. We already are trying to save money and expanding it to a longer time can only equal trouble.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jsearles, people were fine back then without all the fancy computers and smart boards. Some times i think we have too much for us to handle. Like i dont think its necessary for the school to buy smart boards. Or better yet forcing the junior class to have laptops.
I agree with azianboz, people will only get more fustrated with the taxes rising. More problems will only follow if obama extends the year.
I disagree with Obama, I believe if you are to change anything you should change the schools that are struggling and leave the schools that are prospering to continue their process. If he were to create some kind of test for the schools to take (TAKS) and if the school were to do well on it they would get perks and less school time. I believe it should vary based by school.
ReplyDeletei agree with robNORM: the use of smartboards and laptops for each student is just ridiculous in my mind
i agree with azianboz: the tax raise would just cause frustration and if they extend the school year people will just be wrecks, and if they are short on money and the kids work to help the family pay the bills. the kid will be at school and not able to make money.

I really have to disagree with President Obama on this one. Expanding the school won't make quite a difference. If he doesn't like the fact that kids are dropping out than he should make it illegal. Maybe he should think about that. I agree with Azian Boz extending school mean citizens have to pay higher taxes. That's not fair. Adding more time to school kids will not be as motivated and be most likely to quit, give up and drop out. I think there should be another solution besides this one.

Expanding the school year by a month will surely raise taxes, no doubt about that, but the reward's for an extra month of school would be extraordinarily good to our education. I believe that our country is severely behind in education in comparison to China and other countries in Europe and Asia. It's been about sixty year's since The United State's became the wealthiest country because of the World War's. Our country was making huge profit's before we officially entered the war by making war goods and selling them to our European allies who were having to lose money by spending it for the war effort. United State's was only involved in the second World War for really only about two year's while all the other countries were involved since the late 1930's. We didn't sped much on the war as opposed to the eastern countries. That's when we really became a World Super Power. We had a lot more money back then compared to other countries for resources and education. But back to the present now, that's slowly drifted away from us since all the other countries have caught up a little bit with money and our spending it into there education systems.
ReplyDeleteI entirely agree with robNORM on the smart board part. The laptop's are understandable because they do save money in the long run with less salaries that would have to be paid, but a computer can only teach so far as opposed to an actual person. The Smart-Boards on the other hand may be convent, but are totally not practical with expenses. There's a reason to why there are White-Board's in all the class room's, they serve the same exact niche for the Smart-Board, but are way more money friendly. Smart-Board's may have some qualities' that are cost affective in long term's, but I can't think of any.

I disagree with Obama and I think extending the school year would have a negative result. It not only puts more stress on the students, it also stresses out the teachers and parents. Everyone would have less time to spend with their family and friends. There would be more taxes to pay. Student's motivation will decrease and they wouldn't feel the need to even show up to school at all. Summer break is a neccesity in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI agree with jsearles. Many years ago, schools didn't have anything compared to what we have today. Technology is crazy and I think the schools go too far with it. Each junior does not need a laptop and each teacher does not need a smart board. There are other ways to learn the curriculum and I don't understand the need to use technology so excessively. I think schools spends their money on things that aren't neccesities for students and staff.

I disagree with President Obama about expanding the school year, because it wouldnt really change anything. If a kid wants to learn and be smart he will continue to be smart if the school year stays how it is now or becomes longer. A kid who chooses not to try in school will continue not trying even if the school year is longer.
ReplyDeleteJacob Garza per6
I agree with jsearles about the labtops. I think it was a waste of money having to carry labtops around. I didnt learn anything new with the labtops all it did was make my life harder having to be responsible for something else.
I disagree with the Big O. i think that the school year should stay where it is at becuase we all need a little break sometimes. if you keep us in school longer than more people might be likely to drop out.
ReplyDeletei agree with jacob garza because no matter how long we stay in, they wont try harder because you'll get more tired of school the llonger it drags on.
i also agree with michelle petrash. extending the school year would only make the teachers more stressed out because they need a break more than the kids do.

I think extending the school year would have it's advantages and disadvantages so I disagree with President Obama. I believe if he wants to change anything he should change the schools that are struggling or build schools in countries who need some. Everybody keeps saying that it would bring stress upon us and that's not true because you bring stress upon yourself.
ReplyDelete-I agree with jsearles money is not even the issue with the our education program.

I dont think money is the issue with the education. Its all depended on if your willing to learn and if your teachers can teach well.
ReplyDeletei also agree with jsearles money has nothing to do with our education

I believe that President Obama is not looking at the positives of the school system but only the negative. What some adults also don't understand is the amount of work some students do in to there school work and that kids should also have the ability to be happy and not have to have so much pressure put on them at such a young age. The amount of stress kid go through today is amazingly high and should not be. Kids should not have to spend their whole childhood behind a desk at school.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jessica because there are plenty of students who are being provided a good education but are not exepting it and don't have the want to learn. You can not force someone to learn they have to be willing to except the information given to them.

The students they asked about having the longer school year didn't listen to what he actually said. they said that they didn't want a longer school year because they need to give their brains a rest, but Obama never said they wouldn't have a break he just said school would be a month longer.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jessica Martinson; although sometimes money is the issue kids are only going to learn if they are willing to and if their teacher are able to teach well.

I disagree with Obama in expanding the school yearbecause the students need the break that we get so they can rest their brains.and about how we have 1/3of studentsa that dropout in the USi think it will increase if they decide to expand the school year. it will also increase the amount of money the government spends
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jessica Martinson because it is true you can't make the students learn. They learn when they want to and when they are willing to not because they are told to.
i disagree with Obama because expanding the school year will just put more stress on students and teachers and we need our breaks.
ReplyDeletei agree with sreynolds because if 1/3 of the students are dropping out already then the number of high school dropouts will increase within the years if the school year ends up expanding.

I disagree with Obama on extending the school year because in the end it will raise taxes. Where are we going to get the funds to pay the 10,000 new math and science teachers that the Administration is training? Move to the left some more why dont you Mr. President?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jasmine because I feel extending the school year will just make kids feel more unmotivated as the result of the plan and increase nation wide drop out rates.
I also agree with Sreynolds.
i deisagree with Obama because i know i dont like going to school for that long and i know many other students feel the same way and a lot more students will drop out of school because of it.
ReplyDeletei agree with Taylor Boyd i can see how making school longer will make funds go up.
i agree with eselva if you make school longer it will only bring more strees on students and teacher.

I disagree with Obama. Expanding the school year seems like a good idea at first because kids can become more educated. But if you think about it, students are already being stressed out enough and some have a hard enough time as it is. Expanding the school year will cause more students to drop out and less time for other activites (such as hanging with family, friends, and extra ciricular activites) which makes us unique as America and individuals.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with shannon. By expanding the school year, it will cost more money out of taxes where that money could be used for other uses.
Matt Gutierrez
I disagree with Obama as well. Expanding the shcool year could change grades and time but, not the students, every student has his or her's problem in life and more school time wont help them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Matt.Gutierrez and Dylan Hurt as well
Gabriel Luna
I disagree with President Obama about expanding the school year. It would cost more money and i think it would cause more dropouts than normal. We go to school long enough and by the end of the year we are more than ready for a break. We also provide summer school so expanding the school year would be unreasonable.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Matt G, taking out time in our summer vacation would also take away time for activities.
Christina Gutierrez
3rd period
I disagree with President Obama about expanding the school year also. There is no need to since school is already long enough and with sports and extra curricular activities it would be harder to stay on top of everything when the school year is expanded. And i agree with sreynolds because if alot of people are already dropping out what would happen if the school year was expanded? I believe it would increase even more in drop outs and would be a negative outcome in so many ways.

I disagree with the expanding of the school year. I believe that we expand it, that will cause more money and also more unhappy students!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Christina and how she said if we were to expand school that would cause most likely no summer school to exist, not giving students a chance to recieve the credits that they wish.

I disagree with Obama on expanding the school year. He said 1/3 of kids are dropping out. I think if we make the school year longer it will probably cause more kids to drop out. I do agree with him on making sure teachers are doing a good job, it isnt fair if a student has a bad grade because the teacher isn't teaching right or explaining things properly to help the students.
ReplyDeletei agree with eselva if you make school longer it will only bring more strees on students and teacher.
Taylor Burton 3rd period
I disagree with Obama wanting to expand the school year. I do not believe that the length of our school year is the problem, but the attention that is given to each individual student.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Taylor Burton, people do need to make sure the teachers are doing a proper job. If they do not make an effort why would they expect the students to?

I disagree with Obama aswell, expanding the school year would be a bad idea because of 1/3 of students are already dropping out, what makes them believe that expanding the school year will help?It will only cause students to drop out more.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Taylor Burton, the school districts need to make sure the teachers are doing they're job properly.
I also agree with Jenny Allen, expanding the school year will cost more money in taxes and put more stress on teachers as well as students.

I totally agree with what sreynolds said about Obama expanding the school year. I dont think it would be a good idea if that where to happen because kids would hate to come to school. Its also a bad idea because more money would be invole and not every school district has a great amount of money. And aslo there wouldnt be enough free time for the kids.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with obama because i dont think its necessary to add on the school year. It really doesnt matter how long the school year is, what matters is whether or not the student actually wants to learn.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Acormier2010.. i didnt know that many students were dropping out but that is a good point.
